Funny, reading this brought to mind the script for Lawrence of Arabia, because I remember it also having extremely detailed shots and directions. And lo and behold, Michael Wilson co-wrote both scripts.
Scott, back in the day, this was the norm - detailing various shots such as REACTION SHOT, TWO SHOT, REVERSE ANGLE, etc. When did this style end? Was it a sudden thing with one screenplay changing the rules or was it a gradual thing? I'm guessing it was during the seventies, right?
In regards to this clip, one of the most famous lines in the film is not in the script: "Damn you all to hell!" Neither is the over-explanation of what happened: "I'm home. All this time..." etc. Or the over-acting by Mr. Heston...
On the other hand, had the ending not been so over-the-top we probably never would have experienced
