Another yin/yang suggestion from me. We did Lies, how about Truths? It could be a character revealing their real identity, their true intentions, misunderstandings cleared up, or someone just speaking their mind because they're sick of living a lie, etc. There are plenty of examples from all genres. Here are three from the comedy world: Office Space (1999) http://movieclips.com/2pyJo-office-space-movie-motivation-problems/ BOB SLYDELL: Y'see, what we're trying to do here, we're just trying to get a feel for how people spend their day. So, if you would, would you just walk us through a typical day for you? PETER: Yeah. BOB SLYDELL: Great. PETER: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. I use the side door, that way Lumbergh can't see me. Uh, and after that, I just sorta space out for about an hour. BOB PORTER: Space out? PETER: Yeah. I just stare at my desk but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too. I'd probably, say, in a given week, I probably do about fifteen minutes of real, actual work. BOB SLYDELL: Uh, Peter, would you be a good sport and indulge us and tell us a little more? PETER: Let me tell you something about TPS reports... Cut to later. Peter is more relaxed. PETER: The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy. It's just that I just don't care. - While You Were Sleeping (1995) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl7ukWHqGEw OX: What the hell is going on? LUCY: I am in love with your son. OX (confused): l know. LUCY (looks at Peter): Not that one. (looks at Jack) That one. The priest shuts his bible. Ox is pissed at Jack. OX: Jack, what the hell did you do? LUCY: He didn't do anything. He didn't do anything. It was me. It was all me. Um, Elsie, how you doin'? You doin' okay? Um, do you remember that day at the hospital? Of course you remember that day at the hospital. Well, um, there was a little mix-up. Um, I saw Peter get pushed onto the tracks, and, uh, I saved his life. But when I got to the hospital, they wouldn't let me see him. So, um, the-- someone told the doctor that I was his fiancee. Only, um-- Oh. It's not true. I was never engaged to Peter. JACK: Why didn't you say something? LUCY: Because I didn't know how to tell you. - Some Like It Hot (1959) http://movieclips.com/95Uvn-some-like-it-hot-movie-nobodys-perfect/ Jerry: Osgood, I'm gonna level with you. We can't get married at all. Osgood: Why not? Jerry: Well, in the first place, I'm not a natural blonde. Osgood: Doesn't matter. Jerry: I smoke! I smoke all the time! Osgood: I don't care. Jerry: Well, I have a terrible past. For three years now, I've been living with a saxophone player. Osgood: I forgive you. Jerry: [Tragically] I can never have children! Osgood: We can adopt some. Jerry: But you don't understand, Osgood! [Finally gives up and pulls off his wig] Jerry: Ohh... I'm a man! Osgood: Well... nobody's perfect!

More truth telling. What a great movie this is: Never Let Me Go (2010) http://movieclips.com/5vz8D-never-let-me-go-movie-miss-lucy-tells-the-truth/ MISS LUCY: The problem is that you have been told, and not told. That is what I’ve seen while I’ve been here. You have been told, but none of you really understand. So I’ve decided I’ll talk to you in a way that you will understand. Beat. MISS LUCY (CONT’D): Do you know what happens to children when they grow up? Silence. MISS LUCY (CONT’D): No - you don’t. Because nobody knows. On ARTHUR. MISS LUCY (CONT’D): They might grow up to become actors, and move to America. Or they might work in supermarkets, or teach in schools. They might become sportsmen, or bus conductors, or racing car drivers. They might do almost anything. Beat. MISS LUCY (CONT’D): But with you, we do know. None of you will go to America. None of you will work in supermarkets. None of you will do anything, except live out the life that has already been set out for you. - Chinatown (1974) http://movieclips.com/CJV5F-chinatown-movie-my-sister-my-daughter/ Evelyn Mulwray: She's my daughter. [Gittes slaps Evelyn] Jake Gittes: I said I want the truth! Evelyn Mulwray: She's my sister... [slap] Evelyn Mulwray: She's my daughter... [slap] Evelyn Mulwray: My sister, my daughter. [More slaps] Jake Gittes: I said I want the truth! Evelyn Mulwray: She's my sister AND my daughter!

Teddy, we can certainly run with this. There's a great one from Little Big Man where Dustin Hoffman's character tells George Custer what to do -- the truth -- but Custer uses some weird logic to perceive it's a lie, then does it anyway. Great bit of business. Should be a lot more with this theme. I thought of one that could be fun for down the road: Toasts. It's a Wonderful Life (two of them), Rachel Getting Married, Shakespeare in Love jump to mind.

Oh, good one. "You go down there." It was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Haven't seen it in years.

I make another try with a subject close to what I suggested a long time ago: Cop meets Crook Like the diner-meeting in "Heat", or "the Fugitive". Or the somewhat overly sweetened ending of "Gone in 60 seconds" with Cage.

Désirée, let's do that next week, okay? In fact, I'll go create a draft post to set that into motion.

That's fine. "Truth" was a great theme too. It's just that we all have different things close to out hearts. Like in Tequila Sunrise I love the scene where the friend and also Cop (Kurt Russell) comes to arrest the Crook (Mel Gibson), but no one else seems to do do, because that exchange of pleasantries is not even on the Imdb. The rest of the movie pretty much sucks, but that scene, I don't know, I just love it.
