In the commentary Brad Bird talks about the mundane and the fantastic. I admire the way even in this small scene they represent those opposing concepts as the mundane family dinner steamrolls into the fantastic super powered chaos.

Great point, Saint. The scene really is archetypal in that respect, isn't it: mundane (argument between kids) and fantastic (superpowers in action), riffing off the idea, 'What if a normal family was super-normal'?
