This increase in buys is super encouraging!!

If Jim Parsons doesn't get cast as the nerd, an opportunity has been missed here.

This is pretty insane. So I'm an intern over at *unnamed* major studio in *unnamed* production/finance arm, and was handed this script this very morning to do a coverage on (They must have been behind Paramount if it was only getting to the intern at this point), and halfway through my boss comes in and tells me I can stop reading it if I want because Paramount just bought it. It was crazy being in the middle of it all...Of course I ended up reading the rest though. Fun read, but the kind that gives hope to up-and-comers like myself.

So Daniel, you were like in the actual moment of Hollywood making a deal? Wild. I was curious about your comment: "but the kind that gives hope to up-and-comers like myself." Reading your tea leaves, did you think it wasn't all that great of a script? That is were you thinking something like, "If this script can sell, then surely something I write can sell." Anything like that?

Haha yeah I was in the very middle of it all, it was really exciting to see it go down in real time. And Scott, I can see you have honed your Chinese oracle talents because yes, my cryptic message was along the lines of "if this can sell, then surely i can get to a point where i can write something that can sell". That is not to say that I thought it was a bad script though. Far from it. I won't go into plot or anything that I am not supposed to discuss, but I can say that it had good characters, dialogue, pacing, structure, etc. BUT it also wasn't at all revolutionary. The writing itself was not intimidating, the concept was fun but very familiar, the characters were entertaining but not awe-inspiring and the dialogue was fresh but not life-changing. So, I guess what I meant was that the buy was exemplary of the mantra that hard work and a mastery of the craft, rather than just talent itself (not that you don't need talent), could shape a hollywood-worthy script.

In my non-expert opinion, I also think it could have also been a buy in response to the upcoming Maguire production Tokyo Suckerpunch. Very similar concepts, with a slightly different but perhaps more original twist. Hollywood loves its pairs.
