Charlie, if you're reading this, I know it's no consolation, but the world outside Hollywood is just as bad, if not worse. Try working in Silicon Valley for a while, and you'll see it's far more insane without the benefit of a drive for celebrity to fuel the madness. Count your blessings, my friend.

Or you could work for a nationwide grocery chain. They're pretty soul sucking too.

@pliny ... yeah but at least in silicon valley, while it might be insane and soul-sucking, you get paid really well, and that is definitely not something to be poo-poohed. what mr. kaufman should do is to go work in "journalism" for a while -- it's a cancerous, stupid profession where you make pennies on the dollar.

Sometimes you do, and sometimes you don't. It's true the best programming and managerial talent gets paid really well, as it does in Hollywood, and everywhere else. But for the average worker here? Take into account the outrageous cost of living here, and you're not much better off. As for journalism, are there any jobs left in that field?

Just finished reading it and I don't think I've ever laughed so much reading a script. It's hilarious. My cheeks hurt from smiling. He holds nothing back and he attacks everyone and everything in Hollywood and the media. Brilliant. 150 pages and I wanted more.
