I'm in the process of moving to L.A. (have a place, just moving in the stuff), but I am absolutely 100% down with a meet and greet to talk shop and meet people. Sounds like a super great thing.

Hey guys, looking forward to meeting everyone. While the replies come in, I thought I'd just open this up and start trying to get an idea of what would work best for people timing-wise. I'm assuming because of work/school/life, a weekend might be better than a weekday? And I don't have a specific place in mind--that probably depends on how many people we end up getting--but I was thinking a bar, somewhere that has some decent food and wouldn't mind us hanging around for a while. Any recommendations for a spot, throw em out there.

The Red Lion in Silver Lake. The back patio is huge and it's great to be outdoors at night. The Cat and the Fiddle also does good traffic for industry meet ups -- that's where Script Mag has (had?) theirs.

I'd love a meetup. What about a cafe or something though? Might be more conducive than a bar. Weekends or weekdays (if I know in advance) are both fine.

Great call on the Cat and the Fiddle--that's got a ton of space inside and outside, from what I remember. Does it get busy during the afternoon-ish on the weekends?

Cat and the Fiddle worked fine for Script Mag on a Tues.. Don't know what the weekends are like, but the place is big enough (without being cavernous and warehouse-like) that I can't imagine it getting too crowded. But maybe someone who's been there on a weekend can confirm. I would check it out Sat., but I'm in Venice and will be in the Bay Area next weekend.

I'm down in the OC and would love an LA meet up. Cat & Fiddle is great, but any place large works.

In the event that the Cat & Fiddle doesn't work out, I might suggest the Farmers Market at the Grove. There usually isn't too difficult a time finding enough tables for a large group, there are two bars in the area - AND a wide array of food options from the various restaurants there.

Definitely interested. Weekend 6-ish would be best -- bars are quieter, evening plans are yet to commence.

I like bar -- any bar -- better than a coffee shop or cafe, as mixing and mingling is always better. They just lend themselves to more moving around. For now, it looks like Cat and the Fiddle and doing this on a weekend works for most everyone. (We can also shoot for doing this on a monthly basis and move it around among a few different venues, to make it easier for folks who live out in the boonies -- I mean, Pasadena ;-) Who knows - maybe there's even a movie night in here somewhere....)

Josh is right, 6pm (or even 7/8) would avoid the crowds. Cat and Fiddle does get pretty packed on the weekends at night. Let's try to do one before October ends, keeping in mind the 29th will be Halloween Observed here in Imaginationland. Nate -- I was at 1909 Ocean Front Walk for a while, you best have your beach cruiser and longboards (of both the wheeled and finned persuasions) by now!

Wonderful idea, but I think I have to pass on that one. It's not likely the date will match any date I'm in the States. And even if it sounds like fun, it will cost too much money.

Ok, so the Cat and the Fiddle is sounding like the location. Does Saturday October 22nd work? Tentatively say 6? Kevin - my bike is in order, but I'm--even after going to school in Santa Cruz--not a surfer. I'm trying hard to fit in and make people like me here anyways though :/.

Yes and yes. You should reserve some tables outside at the cat n fid. 6 is early enough to beat the crowd but it does get pretty happening there on Saturday nights.
