The Apartment is THE BEST!! What every rom-com should aspire to be :-) This is such a great moment of exposition because in just a few seconds, we not only get a little more insight into Fran's character, but more importantly, Bud recognizes the compact from his apartment and hence realizes Fran has been having an affair with his boss. So simple yet so heartbreaking for lonely Bud, who thought he was finally getting somewhere with Fran, and played so perfectly by Jack Lemmon in the film.

Pure gold. The whole movie is full of dialogue that you can mop up with a piece of bread. Love every minute of it.
