@Laura Deerfield, I got dibs on "Streptococcus vs. Candidiasis," except now it's Strepko vs Candy, an infectious caper. Will septic shock end the universe? Will killer robot rats be deployed in time? Contagion meets Andromeda Strain meets Romeo & Juliet meets Mad Max. What I don't get about derivative characters, they're boring, why not make them more layered and memorable, and make everyone happy and get big accolades for being fresh and innovative. Is it about getting better editors? DC Comics, a well-intended studio, did not intend to alienate folks, but their math was bad and they're paying the price. Would a more attentive editor have made a difference? Re rom coms, too often I'll read one and my takeaway is, damn, that person was bitter about love, and women, and relationships (the bitter steeps through the script, even with officially happy ending). We're all blind in different ways, that's cool, life's a learning curve, just means we need to make sure we have good editors, right? I'd think it was that easy, but clearly it's not.
