Thanks for that 'Drive' link. I liked that Refn mentions Vanishing Point - probably my favorite car chase movie of all times. And what a great quote: "I love the language of silence." Watching the film, I realized that the plot was the least interesting thing about the movie. People who read the script beforehand complained of the major changes that Refn made, but that didn't bother me. From the opening scene and on I felt I was in good hands of a director who understands the language of cinema. The always awesome Niles Schwartz has a new essay about Drive that is well worth reading: http://nilesfilmfiles.blogspot.com/2011/09/real-human-beings-and-real-heroes-drive.html

Kinda surprised about the Creative Screenwriting, kinda not. Scott, did you ever teach at the Expo? or the Pitchfest?

I'm actually feeling pretty low about Creative Screenwriting. I really enjoyed it.

domremy03, my guess is this is mostly about the sad state of the economy, although I've heard the magazine had some problems with contests and drew the ire of users, perhaps dropping their subscriptions. There is Script magazine that seems to be doing well. But I agree, it will be a bummer if Creative Screenwriting fades out.

No, Nick, never appeared there. Hope they somehow keep the expo going. Have heard a lot of good things about it.

So much good stuff in the links, thank you, Scott. News about Creative Screenwriting such a damn shame. Great reason to go subscribe or renew with Script, here, and to support all the industry educational resources we do have, like GITS and SMC. The hearing for the first time video, we watched, tears streamed down our faces, that profound. Got curious what she did hear, not so good (talking here, music here), but it will get easier for her, as her brain starts allotting more grey matter to decoding the sounds.
