Scott, I'd also like to suggest Mystery or Mystery/Thriller as a genre (or sub-genre). I think a ton of scripts follow a mystery formula but end up categorized as thrillers (which is such a broad category). I've been thinking a lot about THE GHOST WRITER lately, great great script and film. If you analyze the film from end-to-beginning, and plot the beats of discovery and deception on a map, it's very illuminating to see how Polanski/Harris navigated the road they chose to go on. It's an interesting way to view structure - navigating backwards from the reveal at the end.

Weirdly, all my selections begin with the same letter... Serenity - great characters, interesting structure, unusual use of goals and desires (you could make the case that the central character only acquires a goal at the end of Act Two, yet the movie works...) Source Code - complex science and ethical questions in a strong thriller plot, clever paying out of exposition. Sunshine - okay, I'm not wild about the religiously inspired bad guy, kind of a cliche: but some terrific "how the hell will we survive this?" sequences and a very interesting approach to the characters...

Yes. To all of the above. Though I'll have to put a vote in for Buckaroo Banzai, as I always list it in my top 5 favorite movies. Secondary vote would be for Moon, (be interesting to read the screenplay for such a minimalist film) but I'll be very happy with Serenity or Sunshine.

Good choices all....although I could never get into Buckaroo Banzai... Serenity, Blade Runner, Eternal Sunshing of the Spotless Mind, T2, Gattaca was amazing at the time...I wonder if it holds up? Moon was fantastic...the best sci-fi film of...what year was that? 2010? Aliens, The Matrix.....so many good possibilities...so many films not on pdfscripts...le sigh
