Actually, there's another part of the Dark Knight that has always struck me as a bit of a plot hole:
Gordon is apparently killed during an assassination attempt on the mayor. Later, we find out Gordon's death was actually faked to protect his family while he helped bring in the Joker.
So my issue is: When was this plan made? Bruce only learns about the assassination attempt moments before it happens when he finds the police protection detail tied up. So Gordon and Batman couldn't have possibly made the plan in advance of the attack because they didn't know it was coming. That means they had to make it after Gordon was fake-assassinated. But how would that work?
Did Gordon just improvise falling to the ground and pretend to be shot hoping no one would notice he was alive and that Batman would somehow figure out he was faking and come find him so they could make a plan that would use said fake death to help capture the Joker? And did that improbable chain of events somehow actually happen? If not... What did? Who made the plan? When did they make it? How did it work?
Maybe I missed something.
