I think this movie was hilarious and greatly written. I think as far as set up and callbacks, there are so many great ones. The best one to me was the "Air Marshall" bit. The whole time Meagan is convinced that he's a marshall, but you're not quite sure what he is or if she's just crazy. But the way she just keeps going at him and heightening it and it finally pays off that he is one and she joins in on the act is pure genius. There have been air marshall bits in the past, but this movie did it in a new way that was extremely entertaining. The other setup/payoff that I really enjoyed was the food poisoning bit. Yeah it was a bit gross, but it worked. Once again, it heightened to the absolute point of excruciating laughter. It is really evident that the writers and actors came from the world of sketch comedy and were successful in weaving that world into a feature.

First of all, compared to Gladiator (an action movie), Bridesmaids (a comedy) is dialogue-based. The script page is full of dialogue, funny dialogue mostly. So, I now understand why reading this was more difficult - I guess I might say - than reading the visual Gladiator. Anyhow, I just read this tweet by @Master_Noel: "The secret to being funny is to say smart things stupidly or stupid things smartly, then act like you really mean it with a straight face." I find this extremely true, and it sums up what dialogue in Comedy should be like. In this Bridesmaids script, the first dialogue between Ted and Annie clearly illustrates (without telling me the intonation) that Annie's saying, "yeah, me too" but she's thinking, "really? you think that? you want that? WHY?" Pages full of dialogue, need ton of time to analyze deeply. Not gonna. I'm going to a carnival this weekend. I'll post more if I can snatch the time and wifi in the village. Buon Weekend GITS buddies!

HELEN: What are you talking about? The only reason you're even in the wedding is because you're the groom's sister. Weirdo. MEGAN: I'd rather be the groom's sister than have cameltoe from my $600 pants. That might be my favorite line. Too bad it wasn't in the movie.

Let me add this monologue which is funny in that run-on kind of way that is in fashion in movies now. Annie trying to hit on a guy because she just read some advice from a self-help book to "Make a funny observation. You know, like Seinfeld" [P. 17]: ANNIE It's kinda funny right? That when girls are ugly, they're called dogs, but dogs are cute. Annie laughs. He half smiles but does not respond. ANNIE (CONT'D) (beat) Well, some dogs are ugly. Some girls are ugly. I know a lot of ugly girls. But I'm not friends with them. I've seen a lot of ugly dogs too. But some people I know who are considered dogs, you know, they have a good personality, and are better looking to people cuz of that. And people who are not nice...that's ugly to me. And female dogs are called bitches, that's weird. I'm just kidding. It's a joke. I have better ones.

Here's another funny line. During the fantasy sequence with Annie [P. 43]: CHRISTIAN BALE Hi. I'm Christian Bale. I'm just chopping some wood, I like to do that between movies. There are so many great little lines like that throughout the script. Like this exchange [P. 98]: GIRL Ummm....you're weird. ANNIE You're stupid. GIRL You have no chin. ANNIE You're gonna be a slut in high school. GIRL You are an old, single loser who has no friends, works in a jewelry store, colors her own hair, and will never know the feeling of owning a luxury car.

The "Hiii" "Hi" sequences made me snicker every time, the "bionic" hearing on shop manager Donna's part also made me snicker, and elicited sudden wave of sympathy for protag (horrible AND crazy boss, eee), the "will never know the feeling of owning a luxury car" from the girl was so sharp and funny, and Helen "the third" was great. Thinking about what lines might get repeated again and again, nothing popped out from script, though Megan's line from movie, "I'm life, Annie, and I'm biting you in the ass!" is fabulous.
