Great post! I have a feeling when the day comes and I sit face to face with a manager he will ask -- Why do we want you? Because we know you love to write and love the process or else you wouldn't be here. I nod and smile but in my mind will echo, "what the fuck is he talking about?" I love admiring the finished product -- the one-hundred pages of fresh ink just sitting there with my name on the top -- sixteen little letters... all mine. Then realizing the process nearly drove me out of my mind... And loved every minute of it.

This sounds a lot like me. The pain and stress that falls on every selected word I write bitters my heart. But when it's working my heart flutters and I love writing. Then it just goes right back to the pain and frustration. But if I power through, put in the needed time, I eventually get what I'm happy with. My hardest critic is myself, maybe one of these days I'll cut myself some slack...

Who is it that said, "The easiest thing to do is not write." A big part of that, I'm sure, is not having to face our inner critic. We can't shut them up or down. Just acknowledge them. Let them have their say. Then type the next line.
