I know the DD for this week is just about wrapped up, but I had to give a shout out to the waiting in line/Marshall McLuhan scene from ANNIE HALL.

MAN IN LINE: We saw the Fellini film last Tuesday. It's not one of his best. It lacks a cohesive structure. You get the feeling he's never sure what he wants to say. Of course, I always felt he was essentially a technical filmmaker. Granted, La Strada was a great film. Great in its negative imagery more than anything else.

ALVY: I can't stand this guy. I'm gonna have a stroke.

ANNIE: Well, stop listening to him.

ALVY: How am I gonna stop listening? He's screaming his opinions in my ear.

I love it because we've all been in line with this guy. (Heck, I bet some of us have BEEN this guy!)

Just finished my first screenplay minutes ago. I am using Final Draft. I have some questions and am wondering if this would be a good place to ask them--or could you direct me in the right direction. thanks

This is more an anecdote than telling a joke, but it's a classic so I thought I'd suggest it anyway.

Goodfellas (1990)

Tommy DeVito: What's really funny was that fucking bank job in Secaucus. I'm in the weeds lying down. He said, "What are you doing?" I said, "Resting. Here?" In the weeds? I'm resting!" They pull me in, start asking questions. You know, this and that. What are you going to tell us?" I said, "My usual. Nothing." "Why tell you?" The fuck. He says, "No, you'll tell me something today." I said, "Okay, go fuck your mother." You saw the paper. My head was out like this. I'm coming around and who do I see in front of me? This prick again. He says, "What do you want to tell me now?" I said, "What are you doing here? I said to go fuck your mother." I thought he'd shit. The fuckers. I wish I was big just once.

Henry Hill: Funny. You're really funny.

I love how Pesci takes the dialogue and makes it his own.

Another joke, What About Bob? (1991)

Bob Wiley: [telling a joke] The doctor draws two circles and says "What do you see?" the guy says "Sex."
[everybody laughs]
Wait a minute, I haven't even told the joke yet! So the doctor draws trees, "What do you see?" the guy says "sex". The doctor draws a car, owl, "Sex, sex, sex". The doctor says to him "You are obsessed with sex", he replies "Well you're the one drawing all the dirty pictures!"

I haven't found the clip yet...

@Teddy: I'm tempted to do jokes, I'm just having a hard time coming up with movie examples. There's one in the movie My Favorite Year about a guy with a duck on his head going to see a shrink. Annie Hall has the one about "we need the eggs." Lenny with Dustin Hoffman? Punchline with Tom Hanks? Maybe there are enough...

@surfwill: Congrats on finishing your script. Not sure what type of questions you have, but you can go here to find 200+ questions my blog readers have asked which I've answered.

The joke telling is a bit hard to find. Here are three more:

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Mia: Vincent, do you still want to hear my Fox Force Five joke?
Vincent: Sure, but I think I'm still a little too petrified to laugh.
Mia: No, you wont laugh, 'cus it's not funny. But if you still wanna hear it, I'll tell it.
Vincent: I can't wait.
Mia: Three tomatoes are walking down the street- a poppa tomato, a momma tomato, and a little baby tomato. Baby tomato starts lagging behind. Poppa tomato gets angry, goes over to the baby tomato, and smooshes him... and says, Catch up.

28 Days Later (2002)

Mark: A guy walks into a bar with a giraffe and proceeds to get pissed. The giraffe passes out on the bar floor. The guy gets up to leave and the bartender says, " OY! You can't leave that lying here!". The guys says, "That's no lion, it's a giraffe!"

Annie Hall (1977)

Alvy Singer: [addressing the camera] There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly. The... the other important joke, for me, is one that's usually attributed to Groucho Marx; but, I think it appears originally in Freud's "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious," and it goes like this - I'm paraphrasing - um, "I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member." That's the key joke of my adult life, in terms of my relationships with women.

One more:

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Will: You know, I was on this plane once. And I'm sittin' there and the captain comes on and he does his whole, "We'll be cruising at 35,000 feet," then he puts the mike down but he forgets to turn it off. Then he turns to the copilot and goes, "You know, all I could go for right now is a fuckin' blow job and a cup of coffee." So the stewardess fuckin' goes bombin' up from the back of the plane to tell him the mic's still on, and this guy behind me goes, "Hey hon, don't forget the coffee!"
