Omg love this film. Was into other things, when I met my darling, who steeped me in films, and this was the first one he shared. Powerful, beautiful film.

Great piece I found, has background on making of the movie, and here you can find whole poem (by the scriptwriter, Peter Handke).

I love Wings of Desire, and after Peter Falk died I went out and got the Criterion DVD. It's still great.

I got to spend some time in Berlin right after the Wall opened, when it was still a divided city, so I have a lot of fondness for that city in that era and WoD captures it really well.

@Ray: Berlin is an amazing city. I visited it with my father and brother on the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift (my father flew 200 missions).

Great film. I saw it when it came out. I was in high school at the time and I was really into German cinema for a while - Herzog, Schlöndorff and Fassbinder (I'm going to see the restored World on a Wire tomorrow!)

I saw Wings of Desire for the first time recently, and I really enjoyed it. Its philosophy has a strangely facile mesh with the Berlin pop-culture world it lives in. And the use of Peter Falk as-himself-as-fallen-angel really resonated with me for some reason. Great film.

Like Jarmusch, if I see Wenders is throwing the party, I'm there. Paris, TX is still my fave of his works. His "Until the End of the World" NEEDS to make it BluRay someday soon. And even the somewhat maligned "The End of Violence" works for me.

My Paris, TX BluRay almost never leaves the tray - - I can watch bits of that film daily.

I am a huge fan of this film. My high school drama teacher introduced us to it in an international film class I took. I think the story line is wonderful and so reflective of the human experience. I also think the way Wenders visually communicates the script's ideas is intelligently done. It's one of those films in my collection that I still pull out to watch for inspiration.
