R-rated comedies are just about the only big films coming out not based on a previous source.

It's also not as easy for a family to pay cinema prices as it used to be. I would wager those who would see something like Zookeeper are waiting for Red Box or Netflix.

That said, I hope the trend dies. Painfully.

Rewriting a buddies comedy script, and I think some R-rated humor would actually boost it's marketability. These days 'Always Sunny' type humor currently rules the roost for crude humor.

There is an appeal. As a writer I want to try writing everything, even if it's a raunchy comedy I can't even show my own mother hehe.

These numbers motivate me on this path.

Although the humor isn't raunchy at all - the R-rating would be because of drugs and nudity. So maybe it doesn't count...
