Sometimes I wonder if it might be cagier to save your really good story concepts for your fourth or fifth script, and get the initial "learning scripts" out of the way with some lesser concept(s). This way, you don't waste your best, freshest ideas by trying to execute them them with undeveloped writing skills.

CJ: That's an intriguing idea, one that presupposes we know which story ideas are "really good" and which ones aren't. But you're certainly right on this point: It's possible to 'taint' a great story idea if we get involved writing it poorly. The strength of the concept may get lost in our shabby early efforts. Hopefully we have the insight to come back to it later on when our writing skills are better and approach it with a fresh set of eyes.
