I think we are overlooking the fact that the world is becoming far less conservative and censorship is certainly on the decline.

No one can doubt that the internet has set the limits, of what might be considered audacious to the out right perverse, sky high.

Over the last 5 years the internet has well and truely become apart of our cultural existence.

I have no doubt that movies that we consider R-rated are no longer even close to what we would call taboo - more likely, something we might call "mainstream cutting edge".

I don't think it will last. I remember the huge boom in bawdy comedies after American Pie and There's Something About Mary, and most of them were garbage because, as the article says, studios focused on the bawdy, not the comedy.

It's a bubble. Bubbles pop. I think the smart money is on what is not being seen right now but is due up to circle around again.
