This has been developing for awhile, this script (I only know because I had to check on the title Singularity awhile ago and saw it was taken).

Harald Kloser is the only successful composer I can think of that also has writing credits. He co-wrote 2012 and 10,000 BC with Roland Emmerich. And I don't mean directors/writers who also score their own films like John Carpenter. I mean coming from a career in music and breaking into screenwriting.

John Ottman, another successful composer, has editing, producing and directing credits but no writing credits, at least according to IMDb. But he's talented in many different fields and knows a lot of people in high places so it wouldn't surprise me if we see a screenplay by him soon.

It's nice to see unusual hyphens. Not just director-writer or actor-writer.

I sure have, Scott. Very interesting stuff, especially the Steve Reich post. I haven't heard the 9/11 piece but I'm a big fan of Different Trains. I bought the Kronos recording of it back in 1990, I think, or whenever it came out.

I know, I've been talking about music a lot in the comments lately - my roots are showing. Hehehe.

I think I mentioned in an email to you a while back that studying music has helped me with my writing. It's fascinating how connected these two worlds are.

Speaking to interesting connections: The book Blink by Malcolm Gladwell contains some excellent writing process information. The examples could be considered metaphors for what it's like to write a script.

scott, speaking of music, i saw this quote from billy corgan (of the smashing pumpkins) who talked about the fact that albums need to have an *arc,* and how albums now are nothing more than a bunch of singles... if i can find the quote again, i'll send it to you.

Albums started off as collections of singles, so really, it's just come full circle.

Maybe one day some creative band or musician will come up with an album-type concept within the context of modern distribution technology!
