Great novel and great script. I really hope they do it justice cause it is action packed.

Seems almost suited for animation but I hope they pull it off live action.

Yeah, I don't envy this new writer. I loved the draft that sold almost blindly. I have a sneaking suspicion that the rewrite is to tone the rating down a little bit.

This and Shadow 19 were two of my favorite sci-fi specs of the past two or three years so I'm glad this is actually still happening. I thought Liman dropped out, though.

I also loved the All You Need Is Kill script. I read it twice in the day I picked it up. That said, I thought it definitely needed a few tweaks near the ending, so hopefully this rewrite will address all of that.

Another ALL YOU NEED IS KILL and SHADOW-19 fan here. IMHO, they're two of the best sci-fi scripts of the last couple years, that is, of course until I finish my sci-fi thriller!

Did the spec writer own the rights to the novel before he started to write the script?

@Jim: Yeah, both of these movies are anything but cheap. I think that you could pull of Shadow 19 for less than you could Kill. I think Kill's scope is a lot more massive when they're out fighting the bugs. Still...pretty sure we're talking the difference between a 100 million dollar movie and a 150 million dollar movie.

I'm praying someone gets Shadow 19 going. They had Brandt and Haas do a big rewrite, which is always a good sing--if someone's throwing a ton of money at those guys to do a big overhaul, at least they're actively interested in getting the script moving forward.

@Ben: I will worship the ground you walk on if you can do it ;)

@Nitro: I don't think he went and got them by himself, I think his reps brokered the deal for him--the book it's based on was massively popular in Asia, so it wasn't a no-name book that he just went and snagged the rights for. Still, he took a huge risk. But...you have to think that his team realized they were sitting on a potential gold-mine, and I'm sure the deal was structured so that if they ended up selling the script, some of their rights-optioning money came back to them. It sold for an OBSCENE amount, so. Kudos to them.
