On "welcoming new people into the fold," fascinated by this dilemma, how do you come up with story and approach that bears repeating and yet says fresh (and meaningful for regulars and welcoming for newbies).
In recent conversation re DC Comics, someone mentioned Supernatural's approach ("that was then", "this is now") was frowned up by execs (time consuming, old ground), but such a success with audience, getting new folk, now everyone happy (I thought was great from get-go, polite gesture to newbies, and great music got you through if you were bored).
DC Comics in big hoo-ha right now, rebooting everything, purpose to get new audience. DC has stunning talent in their creator pool (and I've become so partial to their kick-ass animated movie team (including Bruce Timm, executive producer, Andrea Romano, voice direction)). So talent they got, but DC has made executive level decisions that have been questionable over the years, all pertaining to continuity, the heart and soul of the characters and the world. And now this, eeee, I hope turns out well, else maybe we can expect a reboot every year? http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/06/01/dc-comics-reboot/
