I get so tired of people reminding me that's it's show business not show friends that I started saying this about a year ago: "It should be a balancing act between between business and art, but right now, business is kicking art's ass." Good to see someone quotable is taking that same tack. Sure - writers get that films are expensive, an investment, and need to turn a dime, yadda yadda yadda, but money and marketing seem like the only considerations in the US these days and, when your product is supposed to be an artistic one, that kind of metric-obsessed mindset is only going to hurt the bottom line in the end.

In this current sickening climate, I'm stunned Malick's Tree of Life is even seeing the light of day.

Art and commerce have to balance each other other. Lean too far one way or other and the entire thing collapses.

How is it that lowly commentators like ourselves on a blog understand this but executives worth five times as much as my house and car combined don't???

"Margaret" has been going to "be released this year" for the last several years. I used to check IMDB regularly. "You Can Count on Me" is quite possibly my favorite all-time movie. I also love Lonergan's play, "Lobby Hero."

I got hold of a copy of the script for Margaret, but it's dated July 15, 2003 and the movie was shot in 2005, so no idea if it will bear much resemblance to the final product.

I haven't read the script yet. I wanted to wait and see the movie - have the experience that Lonergan intended and then read to see the process. I've almost given up, but maybe it will actually make it to theatres this year. *Fingers crossed.*
