HENRY Potter?!

Nick: Shows you how old school I am. Henry Potter as in Lionel Barrymoore's character in It's a Wonderful Life.
Scott at 2011-05-24 19:40:49:
That's "Barrymore."

I agree - and I really must change my GENERIC #X naming to your convention, I always hate doing that - not fair on the actor doing the role.

Except in my most recent feature I had this nagging doubt about naming a character GEORGE, because he was the protagonist's father and this was a post-Victorian steampunk story.

The name needed more respect because no one would call him by his given name except his wife and close friends. He should be MR CLAREMONT.

:-)

What a useful idea, thank you, Scott.

@Adaddinsane, re "post-Victorian steampunk story," I would totally see that. On small chance you haven't come across the great pleasure that is Girl Genius (and creators are adorable couple who bear a passing resemblance to GG characters), you're in for a treat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_genius (For movies, if you haven't seen it, not officially SP (like WWW or LEG), but I get such a SP vibe, City of Lost Children, evocative.)

Not that it is of much importance, but you should also give credence to the existence of EXTRAS (background characters). Every story has them. Even if they add very little to the story, they add life to the environment.
