I relate totally to this guy. It's my problem too. I'm very happy in my seaside cottage in Wellywood, writing my screenplays and gathering seaweed on the beach for my garden. BUT because I'm content in my daily life and have no desire for a 'career' I have the same problem as Anonymous. I've worked hard on my screenwriting apprenticeship, and get this kind of feedback for my work: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/note.php?note_id=450811904857. And I'd like to write screenplays for projects like Girls Like Us: http://wellywoodwoman.blogspot.com/2010/08/girls-like-us-looking-for-amy-pascal.html. There may be alternative ways to work as a screen writer? Producers are missing out if they don't consider the alternatives, when it's so easily to work remotely, from New Zealand or Shanghai or Minnesota? Thanks for answering this one, Scott. This is definitely my question too. I've lived in Hollywood. I have my degree in film, and several of the student films I wrote won festival awards. I moved away ten years ago and swore I'd never return. I have *no* desire to live the Hollywood life, no matter how much money I'm paid.

But... I'm a writer. I can't help it. I'm on the 3rd draft of a screenplay right now that I think I could sell in a year or two once it's in perfect shape. I've given local workshops on screenwriting, have a critique group, have readers, and people are telling me the work is good. I'm afraid to query because I feel the same way as Anonymous: I don't want to have a career as a screenwriter. I want to be a gardener in Washington state who sold a good story to Hollywood.

So thank you for answering this question. It's given me some food for thought as I continue working on the project.
