@Jim: That is simply one of the most difficult aspects of writing, when you get notes about a script that cause you to wonder what the hell. If it's any solace, I've been involved in a few studio projects where the responses was tepid to negative. In fact, I had a TV project where upon delivery of the first rough cut, I got an email from the network exec that began, "Uh-oh."

So it happens. You can step back and see if what they say has merit. That's tricky, too, because if you're not feeling it, then hard to make those changes.

i am stuck in my own personal development hell right now with an idea i've been struggling to get a grasp on all semester. it really f-ing sucks. pardon my language.

but then later tonight, after the workshop, i saw j.g. ballard's "highrise" on my bookshelf, and that sparked a structural idea that i know can help me out. so, i don't know. i keep just trying to ride the wave, man. fall off the board, get back on, fall off, get back on, and hope no sharks bite my legs off or anything.

bad metaphor. but you get the idea.

I also was having some rather disquieting issues with the scribbling today...

...and then a combination of things happened. Your timely post and then watching my 2 year old son discover the Pixar film "CARS" for the first time. The junior Messerman was rapt, absolutely droolingly rocked to his core by this film... by the time the credits were rolling, the lad was speeding around the living room snarling, "ka-chow!" And I was like, "oh yeah, THIS is what movies can do for us."

So thanks to you and to Zachary B. Messerman for the inspiration! It's gonna' be a great night for writing! :D

Great... Just when I thought I could walk away someone comes up with an idea to re-inspire myself!

Reminds me of an indie film with DeNiro and Martin Landau called "Mistress". After their plans are shot to hell, they turn around and get right back on the horse again.

I love it. Thank you. And I like the shark metaphor, too. The greatest thing about staying in the water, braving the possibility of sharks is that sometimes you become the wave. Those are the moments I love.

Was listening to someone today on the radio... talk radio but also writes -- he is stuck as well with his new book.

I think something is in the air.
