Recently lost my mother. Thanks for sharing this. Hard to read - even harder to write, I guess.

Thank you for sharing these moments, Scott. Deeply moving, transcendent...

Called to mind an Irish father I met in Belfast. His most treasured possessions were simple art projects from his children's preschool -- paintings they had made, using only their breath through straws. He, too, made the connection...

Perhaps the best thing you've ever written. I look forward to meeting her.

Such a beautiful post, Scott, so much heart and meaning, thank you for sharing.

Lost my mom unexpectedly, anchor in my life, wise, funny, brilliant, passionate about adventure, joy, justice. A bright sun. What I'd previously learned about grief was vastly insufficient now, books and advice seemed well-intended but trite. Only book that helped, book on breathing. Miracle of Mindfulness, the breathing exercises he detailed brought me back to here and now.

May we all breathe deep and long for years to come, with plenty of time for many more adventures, words, and hugs with our darlings.

Speechless, silent...I never forget my father's passing. Each year, the day comes around, there is the comfort of his existence in a better world but the pain of missing him, everyday. Every-day.

This post was interesting because, considering this is a blog that teaches us to improve our storytelling it enlightened me on act breaks and how their impact on us should not only drive the story forward but have some sort of emotional impact as well.

I came to this because reading most of the paragraphs I didn't feel too much emotion but particular parts did. It was a build up and preparation that cumulated into those 2-3 paragraphs that really gripped me, spaced apart like act breaks.

Touching story and great insight into storytelling.

P.S. I recognized the "haiku" style writing and it definitely keeps up the pace but I think some sentences might be better read in a longer breadth for deeper impact emotionally. I have mixed feelings on it at the moment.
