You definitely picked two of the best - "Back To The Future" and "Twelve Monkeys."

Both operate at opposite ends of the spectrum of "time can be rewritten" yet both follow their own internal logic perfectly.

One entry you missed is "Time Crimes", a fantastic low budget Spanish thriller that will, I'm sure, be remade one day by Hollywood. As a time travel buff I always wait for the ball to be dropped but thankfully this one spins a rewarding little mystery that sticks to the rules and delivers some great twists and turns. I recommend checking it out before it gets the remake treatment and the ball is dropped....

Primer is another underrated time-travel movie that deals very specifically with the theoretical physics of the machine. It also hammers on the philosophical and ethical ramifications of changing the past and makes a weird swerve into what I'd consider a horror movie toward the end of the second act.

Not a lot of time travel horror films.

You've missed "Time After Time," which has got a nearly-perfect structure.

How'd I forget Frequency - I've seen it a million times. (And its internal logic makes less sense with every viewing.) Millenium is a meh movie of a good short story.

Oh, and 13 Going on 30and Kate and Leopold are also two rather "eh" movies I admit to watching at least 1.5 times ...

M, I always liked "Time After Time." (So amusing when he thinks he's impressing her by mentioning "free love" and she laughs and says she hasn't heard that expression since she was in 7th grade.)

"La Jetee" (the film upon which "12 Monkeys" was based) and "Slaughterhouse Five".

I'll also second "Primer", "Time After Time" and "Frequency" as movies worth checking out in addition to those mentioned in your post.

My favorites would have to be:

3.) "Terminator 2"

I love time travel stories. Sometimes it's hard to handle because of the 'if you change the past wouldn't your present have changed already' thing. But for movies like 'Back to the Future' it's an easy premise.

Another movie is 'Timer'. Not exactly a time travel per say but will having the ability to know the future change your present actions. My favorite movie with that setup is Next. People didn't like it but I loved the premise.

I know were talking about movies here but Star Trek TNG and Twilight Zones are chocked full of time-travel stories.

One more thing to think about is the 'stuck in a time loop' story like 'Groundhogs Day' and the TV show 'Daybreak'.

How about Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home? Otherwise known as Star Trek IV: Save the Whales.

I know this is about time travel movies, but there is a great book that I'd love to see made into a movie call "Replay" by Ken Grimwood. If you like time travel you'll love this classic book.
