Sad indeed. My brother committed suicide. Had a big impact on me at 17.

Also, Michael Stipe wrote a beautiful song called "Let Me In" in memory of Cobain.

Synchronicity: I just watched 'The Killing' which is very similar to Twin Peaks. So I was thinking of my honeymoon, when we went to Seattle on our way to Snoqualamie [where TP was shot]. When we arrived in Seattle, everyone's mood was dismal: Cobain had just killed himself the day before. We were fans, and we were the same age.

I remember the day he died, too, but it's hard for me to articulate why he and his work affected me so profoundly ... but I'm glad that you did, and did so well.

I'd heard somewhere that Dave Grohl's MY HERO is about Cobain ... at first it's difficult to see, but when you hear the acoustic live version, it makes sense.

What a loss, heartbreaking story. We need folks that see fiercely, and express that in their work.

Recently read another story about a creative that suicided, David Foster Wallace, which you probably saw, Scott (New Yorker), egads sad: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/03/09/090309fa_fact_max

I wish he'd just written fiction, which he expressed enjoyment for, and let himself enjoy it, without the burden of having to reveal deep truths with every work. Truth comes out of every corner, even if story small, and fictional, if truth is at the heart, and audience would have still found value in his work--and so many would be overjoyed that he continued to live.

Cobain, and all creatives, should go easier on themselves, not feel beholden to one way of expressing themselves, and just focus on exploring, and enjoying the creative process. Cobain's enjoyment would have come back online with time, I wish he'd taken that time and space (and a less toxic mate might have helped) for himself. Would have loved to see/hear what else he might have come up with over the years.

An artist is an artist is an artist, no matter what the medium or the moment. We see things deeper, differently, and more multi-colored, compared to many. And we cry at beautiful work, because it's just that damn beautiful.

RIP KC. Personally, I attribute his death to drugs more than the shotgun. I doubt he would have done it without them.
