I'm not a "wizard weed" kind of guy but I will admit a cold beer or two (or more) has helped me on some occasions to bang out pages when I originally thought there was no hope.

I will admit that a few of those pages were complete garbage but it helped sling-shot me through the slump.

I will write while smoking marijuana sometimes. Llike any mind/body altering substance it can help you think outside of the box (or at least feel like you are). Other times, it's totally the worst idea and it's completely counterproductive. I wouldn't try to a work on structure or plot, or anything analytical while high. That stuff is hard enough for your brain when it's not impaired.

Smoking weed can DEFINITELY help nudge the writing process along...just don't overdo it. I find that one toke before I start writing can work wonders...specifically, when I'm blocked or have hit a brick wall. It really helps you blast through that wall by getting out of the mindset that has you stuck in the first place. Opens your mind...

...that said, it doesn't always work. It's inconsistent. And, at least for me, if I smoke more than once or twice a week, it has the exact opposite effect and I can't write for shit.

Everyone's different though.

Ha! I tried once... and found that it took me three or four tries to type the word "by" - which was a bad sign. Since I don't write longhand, I just kept cracking away. It was a little like an undergraduate psych experiment. When I went back the next day, everything I wrote was garbage.

I wrote one script with prodigious amounts of bourbon, mostly very late at night, with a window overlooking a dark, sleeping city. Maybe the drink loosened me up or relaxed me enough to write. Maybe it made writing feel indulgent. Maybe it made getting up just a little bit harder, encouraging me to sit still and write. But I have to imagine that for most writers who drink while at the task, a big part of it is ritual. Pour a drink, sit down, write. When you need to give your fingers a rest and look at what you've typed, lean back and have a sip. Sounds good, right?

Mark Twain's advice: "Write drunk, edit sober?"

Coffee is my drug of choice, since I usually write in the morning.

If I'm working at night, I may have a drink or three... But after three, call it a night.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how many of us admit to having a little tipple whilst writing. Certainly goes against the old dogged mantra of 'never drink and work'. Brilliant!
