Could Star Wars be considered a road picture ?

if road pictures have roots in mythology so does Star Wars.

and if you think about the plot (and I'm talking about A New Hope here)
it's really about getting somewhere (Alderaan) and then to somewhere else. (the rebel base)

along the way the protagonist goes through an inner journey and is transformed in the big climax.
("trust your feelings Luke")

so if Star Wars can be considered a road picture, then that would be my favorite.

Otherwise it would be Duel.

I have to throw in a childhood favorite - "Pee Wee's Big Adventure."

"Honky Tonk Freeway" always brings a smile to my face... and it's the ultimate road picture because it's all about... roads!

"National Lampoons Vacation" and "Rain Man" are great road trip movies as well.

And the unsettling, dreamy Terrance Malick debut "Badlands".

It Happened One Night.

My wife and I watch that all the time.

Toss in Casablanca, Arsenic and Old Lace, a dash of It's A Wonderful Life, and our island marooning is set...and a really long extension cord!
