It's actually a trend in theater as well. I've heard of a lot of theaters recently commissioning Pan adaptations, plus there's disney's "peter and the star catcher" on broadway.

I think a lot of this started with this new Robin Hood trend last year, just terrible, I couldn't even watch half of it, Robin Hood is suppose to be young and handsome, not old and fat wearing a tight green shirt that shows more of his fat. I love Russell Crowe, but not in that film.

Next gold mine, how about Greek and Roman myths? Or moments in history (like 300, retelling of Battle of Thermopylae)? The shared mental real estate quotient might not be as high as for Peter Pan, but the story value is there, esp with the myths (which underlie so many stories already).

There's an All-Star Superman comic (writer Grant Morrison, adapted to film by Dwayne McDuffie), totally riffs off Hercules, to great and moving success, even finds new ways to reveal Superman (decades old character we all know) that manage to be fresh. Fabulous work.

I've actually been waiting to hear more about Neverland (the Pan recast as a villain spec).

I remember reading about it in 2007 when it was pitched and liked the idea of retelling the story from a different perspective. "What if Peter Pan was actually kidnapping kids and taking them to Neverland?"

The story is the same, but the intent is different.

I'm not sure if the other project are more or less recent.
