I received an email from a screenwriter working in Hollywood who asked me if that gas station still exists. I can't say for sure as of today, but a few years back when I was out there for a family vacation, we drove up the 101 to the Bay Area, and I stopped at King City. Sure enough, there was the Shell Station. And believe it or not, there was the pay phone.

I got out of the car and stood in front of that phone. Picked up the receiver, just to hold it in my hand. I looked around at the trees, the sky, listening to the sounds of cars and trucks passing by. About twenty years before, I had stood in precisely the same spot - and everything in my life had changed.

It was an odd, yet lovely moment.
