My favorite Cinderella Story, Michael Davis, Shoot 'Em Up, went into New Line Cinema to pitch the script, ended up sharing some animated storyboard footage he'd put together to work out action scenes, walked out of meeting project approved and signed on as director (story from interview on dvd, also mentioned on wikipedia). Just now looked him up on imdb, discovered Davis already deeply savvy about directing. He'd already practiced, practiced, practiced. So this Cinderella was no newbie.

My understanding, could be wrong, we have True Romance because Tarantino so unhappy with what Stone did with Natural Born Killers. So if a director messes up your work, you might just end up with two great scripts out of it.

What you do control, entirely, are the words. Write your script so distilled and precise that any person reading it, or at least most folks reading it, will see it precisely as you intended. Good luck, Matti!

Matti, I think you are wrong when you say that you are the only one who can do your script justice.

There are so many people involved in makeing a movie and everybody contribute and are vital in their own way. You need the right actors, the right dressmaker, the right props, the right all of it to make the movie of your dreams.

I can understand if you want to direct, but to think that no-one can make your story better, that's a delusion of grandeur you better get rid of.

To make a movie co-oporation and team-playing are vital.

Sounds like a short film is the way to go and I have a few ideas.

I like the Tarantino strategy.

He started with Natural Born Killers which he allowed an awesome director to take over.

That success (or agreement to let another director take over) lead to the small cheese for Reservoir Dogs. I can see him saying "Ok - I'll give you Killers, but I can do Dogs with no money, so make that the deal."

That success lead to the big cheese for Pulp Fiction.

Do ask yourself... Are you more talented than Tarantino? Perhaps your ego needs a check.
