"The real writer is one
who really writes."

I love this. It inspires me to sit in the chair as I struggle with a months-long block and an unwillingness to do the heavy lifting required on my story.

@TT: That's one of the lines that jumped out at me. In fact, I already excerpted it for a future On Writing quote. Allow me to send you a blast of virtual creativity to help you bust through that block.

That's a good one.

The whole last passage is great and true:

"The real writer is one
who really writes. Talent
is an invention like phlogiston
after the fact of fire.
Work is its own cure. You have to
like it better than being loved."

Every single line of that is something to devour. I really have to ask myself if I love the process more than the response I'll get for the outcome of it.
And I think I don't. This is what has blocked me over all those months and years. So much that I couldn't do it anymore. Sitting there, dreaming about stories and writing and being a writer while I was just a bum with no job. All these people who were telling me that were somehow right. I won't have talent because that is attributed to someone who already has done the work. I won't be a writer because I don't write.
Right now I feel like giving up. Get a normal job and these stories out of my head. Not by writing them down but by letting them go. Forgetting about them. I'm not sure if I can. I'm still reading this blog (why has it to be so inspiring, dammit?! ;), I still read scripts and I'm still dreaming. Maybe I can trick myself into writing and finishing something just because I don't take it so serious anymore. Treat it like a hobby, like knitting. It is a tedious delusion. It really eats you up if you can't let it out. I really don't know what to do... *um...help?*
