That Kevin Smith quote is so crucial. I'm a filmmaker and screenwriter and despite being rejected sometimes,
i forge ahead. and it pays off. Thanks for reminding me

best,

Advice like this always sounds well and inspiring and makes we wanna get up and shout out, "Yes, I'm a screenwriter." But then I think about it and remember that Kevin Smith (I'm a great fan of his, btw) was just a very, very lucky guy with a bunch of great friends and he won the lottery of life. What are the odds?

The truth is you only hear the stories and advice of the people who made it. And you think you can make it, too. You make the assumption that the advice that was given to them was the key for their success because you already know the positive outcome.

We all can buy a ticket for the lottery but we will only hear from the guy who hits the jackpot.

I bet 99.99% percent of aspiring writers and filmmakers will never even get their little toe's nail in the door of the movie business no matter what great and true advice they were given.

I appreaciate these stories, though. They excite me and I love to read about how people made it, but I also always have to remind myself that I won't. For the same reason that I won't win the lottery and won't die in a plane crash. What are the odds?
