Scott -

These are simply bad movies that sacrifice real drama and conflict for formula. They are too expensive to produce for the box office and are a poor investment overall. I may catch one on cable, but cannot recall EVER going to the theater to see one.

NO ONE has done anything original with the Rom-Com in a decade to movie it and its tropes forward. No one has focused on the key ingredient - the story. Instead we get the same old gang of girls starring in these movies - Reese, Jennifer, Julia, Kate, Sarah Jessica, et al...

Someone needs to look at this genre with an electron microscope and get back down to its DNA so it can be re-engineered to prevent its birth defects.

Excuse me... "Move it and its tropes forward."

Not, "Movie it..."

Rom-Com's are stuck in a catch 22 it seems like. The studios want new ideas and original takes on subject matter but dont want to risk the investment. So they stick with the same ol crap every year. I should just try to stop thinking of somehting original and write a remake to Pretty Woman, I could probably sell that...

Too many romantic comedies have crappy concepts, plain and simple.

I'd rather watch While You Were Sleeping again than shell out cash for something that looks generic and manufactured.

You know, I don't think I saw any Rom Coms this year in theater. Unless you count Day and Knight as a Rom Com but I consider it Action Comedy.

It's the same thing everytime with them. A List casting, all the funny parts are in the trailer, cliche storyline, not really all that funny or romantic.

The last Rom Com I remember enjoying as The Proposal.
