A while back I posted my desert island collection which also included television at Flickering Myth.

As for the ones listed by Roger Ebert, I admire Citizen Kane for being cutting edge at the time but the one I absolutely love after all these years is The Third Man; it has it all: intrigue, romance, and humour not to mention the film is visually stunning.

I said it before on a post around here and I'll say it again... there is no such thing as a 'perfect' movie but The Third Man is probably as close as it gets.

I've only seen The Third Man once in its entirety. Loved it. Great soundtrack, too. Have to check it out again over the holidays.

Some of the films he listed are undeniably great, but I would hesitate to rank them among my top 10 favorites. I worship Kubrick and Hitchcock night and day, but 2001 and Notorious are nowhere near as enjoyable to me as The Shining or North By Northwest, so the entertainment factor alone gives them a higher appreciation.

Kane is a masterpiece, but I'd much rather watch The Terminator (which is also a masterpiece). And The Third Man pretty much bored me until Wells showed up...at the end.

I put absolutely no faith in anything Ebert says, but if he doesn't include something from Pixar instead of some obscure foreign film nobody's ever heard of, I will officially write him off as a complete waste.

Glad to see someone else who thinks Notorious is the best Hitchcock. I too like the complexity of the Bergman/Grant relationship.

2001 also has to be way up on a list for several reasons.

And Casablanca is, well, Casablanca! No argument about that being perhaps No. One on the all-time list.
