Seems like the wrong decision to me. They're departing too far from the original material.

I mean, a logical step for the sequel should probably have been moving some of the Radiator Springs gang to Lightning McQueen's home. Instead of him trying to figure out how to make it in the Small Town USA atmosphere, we could watch the other characters' try to survive in the Big Town USA atmosphere.

I have no clue how to justify the choice of throwing McQueen and Mater into Hong Kong to save the world.

It'll be successful b/c the title includes C.A.R.S. but it could've been way more successful with a more logically justifiable choice for setting.

I am frankly baffled by the numerous critical hits the original Cars movie has taken. I found it to be very enjoyable, sweet, great family entertainment, and my grandson & I spent many hours with the entire Radiator Springs town & characters, as well as re-watching the film. Am weary of the combative, violent movies that inundate the market today. Good for Pixar for continuing to offer wholesale fare for viewing!

@Shiwanokia: I can relate to your weariness with all the bombast of current movies. And glad you enjoyed Cars. I just didn't enjoy it as much as other of their movies. File under "one man's ceiling is another man's floor." I'm looking forward to Cars 2.
