I think that it might put a dampener on things, but NZ would bounce back. They already do amazing stuff anyway, Hobbit would be a bonus. Hopefully things have worked out, in the news this morning we've been told that they're staying but the NZ govt has promised big tax breaks etc etc.

I was really pleased when Guillermo Del Toro was initially signed on to direct. Now that it's back to Peter Jackson, eh not so much. Doesn't matter where it's shot, frankly.

Aside: Wow, Jackson really doesn't look good these days...

It was pretty much hell last week. All 4.5 million of us were freaking out. The actors were getting threatened etc. It was manic. Then the government went to the airport and picked up the Warner Bros suits in the BMW ministerial cars... and somehow made them happy.
