Hahahaha! Since when did 22-year-old recent film school grads get any attention from anybody? Since when did they deserve to? (And I say that as a recent graduate myself.)

I can only think of one film school graduate who wrote/directed something great before he was 25, and that's David Gordon Green, and that's because he made something with no intention of getting involved with Hollywood (he was going to join the Marines after he finished the film). But it did get noticed and he's doing very well now (directed Pineapple Express and is working on a big movie called Your Highness now).

The other small handful of writers and or directors that I can think of who did something of note before age 25 didn't go to film school, perhaps with the exception of J.J. Abrams, but I think that's because he wrote something good (Regarding Henry) and not necessarily because of film school.

I think Hollywood's looking more at YouTube than they are at film grads these days, and that's just as well--if you're looking for talent that's gonna bring something new and special to the table, you don't go to where they teach people how things have been done up until now.

... Sorry for the rant. I obviously think about this stuff a lot. The only thing that I can see recent film grads being targeted for is free labor, and that's when they start the real learning.
