That's funny -- just this morning, my son got up a little early and came into my office.

He plopped down into my reading chair and said, Tell me what your story is about.

So I told him the simple logline -- it's a horror, so I tried to tame it down a bit.

He thought for a moment, and then said, Doesn't sound like there's enough obstacles. You should add some obstacles.

Of course his ideas for obstacles were a troll under the bridge and three werewolves in the woods.

I swear I've never talked about "obstacles" with him.

Kids are such natural storytellers and sometimes it feels like all this study of craft is me trying to get back to that 8-year old kid...
