Growing up in the midwest, the only venue available to me to learn about non-traditional film was Sunday mornings with Siskel & Ebert. If it wasn't for them, I never would have known about some of my favorite films like Hoop Dreams, Breaking the Waves, You Can Count on Me... the internet wasn't prevalent at the time and my hometown had no film culture. I'd check the local Video Connection daily for the titles Gene and Roger recommended. I still remember the looks I got when as a 15 year-old I brought Go Fish up to the counter.
