This sort of thing reminds me of a friend of mine. She studied acting in school, but was currently working in a field that had nothing to do with her career aspirations. One day, she is introduced to a friend's friend and when asked what she does for a living, she answered: "I'm an actor."

The encounter eventually landed her a lead role in a short film he had written and was producing.

Not only do we have to remind ourselves that we can do that, we need to remember that it is what we do; whether you're supplementing your income as a waiter or working as an analyst for a corporation - you are a writer.
