There was another interview done with Marty not to long ago (can't remember where it aired) where he admits that he's not a plot guy but a character guy who always approaches the story through character. You really see this in a flick like Goodfellas, my favorite film of his and one of my favorites of all time.

My favorite Scorsese?

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST, for sure. It's not a perfect film, but it is an astonishing one.

My fave is TAXI DRIVER.

What's interesting is that Scorsese didn't really answer Favreau's question about story vs. plot, and instead talked about how he's more interested in character behavior and mood than story. Robert Altman said something similar, that there are really only about 6 or 7 stories and that for him the plot is just a clothesline to put interesting behavior on.

THE KING OF COMEDY.

While not the flashiest or showiest of his films, it the one that, for me, affects me the most.

There's not a hint of violence yet it deals with a whole other kind of brutality... the social kind. There as scenes that will absolutely make you squirm (such as when Rupert invites himself to Jerry's summer house.)

The first time I saw this I simply couldn't BELIEVE what they were implying so I had to watch it about four or five more times over the next couple of days just to be sure.

Wish Scorsese would venture out and do another satire but I guess the reception of The King of Comedy and After Hours (probably my second fave) probably scared him off.

Raging bull is my favorite
but taxi driver is right up there

I recently watched the wrong man. he's right. Hitchcock's camerawork is truly amazing. He puts you in manny' s shoes, where you get to see everything in his eyes. you experience the small space in the jail cell and the handcuffs.

I'd go with Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Raging Bull.

Yeah, Jon Favreau looks like a stunned fish! Seemingly out of his depth.
