I definitely guilty of the "setting aside" phenomenon. It's time to adhere to that goal of one page per day instead of re-writing sections that I think need improvement.

I'm posting this so that I have additional motivation to stick to that goal. :-)

Just curious - do you write sequentially from Fade In to Fade Out, or do you hop around from scene to scene?

@Firefly Games: If I've worked out the story beforehand, I tend to write sequentially, primarily because I ca best track narrative flow, pace, etc. However there are times where I will jump ahead to a scene. For instance, if I am stuck on a scene or I have a sudden inspiration on how to approach another scene.

If I have chosen to start writing w/o mapping out the whole story in advanc, I tend to jump around more, a more instinctual approach.

As I say, there is no right way to write. Whatever it takes to make the story work. So sequentially, not sequentially, either can work.

I do a page a day process. We have a young family and I feel confident and better about myself when I get one page done. Now that's minimum. anything can happen right? It's been 12 years since I've been out of film school so I'm getting back into the process and relearning everything. one thing I recommend is reading tonnes of screenplays. Anything and everything. That's the best education. The other thing I've learned is to let go of that first draft. I have some plot points and beats a la Blake Snyder, but with this draft I'm seeing what happens. This is the first script I've written in five years and man it feels good. oh yeah, read Breaking Bad-pilot. Re Read it. Know It. Writing doesn't get much better than that. Listen to Scott Myers. He knows what he's talking about and write everyday no matter how shitty it is, it will get better. ---Mark
