Also, Scenario Scenes are great writing tools to dig deeper into characters. All you have to do is write out a practice scene where your main character, and major characters if you like, perform in a scene to see how he/she would act. The scene may or may not be related to your script. How would Darth Vader act at a basketball game? Write a scene of him at a basketball game. What would his house look like? How would he deal with raising a family? Write scenes to find out.

How often do you go back and read what you wrote in your diary. I've been doing something similar for years, after reading The Artist's Way - morning pages extending to every moment of indecision in my life. I always write in a notebook and my handwriting is terrible, but I accept the fact saying that I'll never go back and look at what I wrote - it's 100% process and 0% results... But after reading this post it makes me thing I might want to try doing it on the comp to have something searchable/readable...
