Geez, if they're gonna re-make movies per the decade, why not re-make films from the '70s, arguably the best film decade since the '40s (or 1939, which was equal to a decade all by itself).

I suggest they just do more new movies with substance that entertain rather than re-makes. Why does it have to be nearly all schlock cotton candy or prestige, with almost nothing in between?

I always loved the BTTF series. Truly wonderful example of very effective use of setup and payoff. Broadly drawn, interesting characters. Great stuff. I met Bob Gale a few years after the last BTTF and interrogated the poor guy at lenght about how the BTTF series was written. He was very patient and gracious. He also seemed a little bitter about not getting the same level of recognition and success of his partner, the other Bob...

They also wrote the very funny Used Cars film - I think that was Zemeckis's first directing effort. They also wrote the one bomb that Speilberg has directed, 1941. I liked the film regardless of the general consensus.

Don't you dar joke with me about 90's remakes Scott Myers. I would kill to see an Pointe Break Remake. FALSE! Keanu and Swayze for the win.

FYI your stock has to be high to fall. Joe Carnahan's stock was never high. Well maybe after Narc but then he got kicked off of Mission Impossible III. That was like seven years ago. That's when his stock dropped. Feel bad for the dude cuz he's really talented. Narc is sick. And his scripts for White Jazz and Killing Pablo are amazing.

It just sucks the only job he could get in the past four years was the A Team. And the Scott brothers hooked him up with that job cuz they see his talent.

Also I saw the A Team this weekend. It was entertaining. I didn't feel like they stole my nine dollars. Patrick Wilson was great as Lynch. And if you look at the message boards of people who saw it, most thought it was pretty good. I mean it's the A Team. A PG- 13 action comedy for petes sake.

Who knows, they may actually remake a film from the late 80's with a certain Belushi brother and his German Shepherd sidekick!

The troughs of remakes Hollywood is producing right now makes me want to vomit.

The produce movies that have a preconditioned audience. There's already a group willing to see the film. In doing so, they guarantee some amount of money, but they risk utter failure. Not because the movie was bad, but because the preconditioned audience felt it wasn't true to the source. How stupid is that thinking? Lets make a film with completely unpredictable box office performance. It will either make a bit extra money, enough money, or it will bomb.

When you produce original material, you create a stir because the comparisons aren't made between remake and source, they're made between the film and the rest of cinema history. You have a lot more room to breath. The audience will see the movie so they can decide for themselves what they think it means. Remakes will ALWAYS be judged by the source.

Look at "Avatar." You rarely heard or read a solid review of the film. Most short blurbs had to do entirely with comparing it to "Pocahontas" or the Smurfs?! It's as if the younger generation is digging and clawing for a comparison. No, they won't talk about the actual problems of the film, or the strengths of the film, they will only focus on the fact that this film was "just Pocahontas with giant blue smurfs."

I'm ranting again. I apologize. But it really makes me sick what Hollywood is doing to cinema right now. Give us originality or give us death!
