JJ Abhrams and Speilberg. One certainly doesn't need the other to over-produce a film.

Anything Abrams gets an immediate must-see from me. That man is a genius.
Garrett at 2010-05-06 20:55:51:
Abrams' mysterious nature is not just because he's a dick, either. He's a firm believer in the "mystery box." If anyone's seen his TED talk, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you haven't...you should go see his TED talk.
Scott at 2010-05-06 22:45:15:
@Garrett: You mean this video.
Zach at 2010-05-07 05:18:50:
must be about aliens.

There's a leaked trailer on youtube showing someone or something that opens doors like my two year old.

This Abrams guy makes me so hopeful about Hollywood. His works are always sharp and insightful and, by God, he understands the quality of mystery and showmanship. "Star Trek" was remarkable, "Cloverfield" was a perfect old fashioned "monster show" with a smart new spin, and this "Super 8" just makes me pant like a dog.
Ricardo Cantoral at 2010-05-07 15:31:33:
"This Abrams guy makes me so hopeful about Hollywood."

That is a stretch. I mean nothing there's nothing wrong with liking guys films but I think that is just going too far.
Jeff at 2010-05-07 15:38:18:
Well Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich, and Paul W.S. Anderson haven't exactly instilled any confidence in Hollywood product so, y'know, Abrams is as good as anyone, eh?
Ricardo Cantoral at 2010-05-07 15:47:09:
I don't see how J.J. Abrams should be above those mens' names. Star Trek was a decent distraction, that was it. The plot was overblown, badly written, and full of holes. The constant arbitrary camera angles and and lens glare didn't help either. As for Cloverfeild has to be one of the worst monster films of all time. You barely see a monster, it's all about one moron shaking a camera; speaking of which that South Park spoof of CF hit the nail on the head.

Nope, main stream Hollywood is quite hopeless; both live-action and animated.
Jeff at 2010-05-07 16:13:44:
Methinks you should steer clear of the multiplexes, Mr. Cantoral... :D

Oh I have. I rarely watch new films anymore. I am content with TCM; the only channel that dosen't suck. :P
Jeff at 2010-05-07 19:21:18:
In that, sir, we are absolutely in agreement! Osborne and Mankewitz forever!

Almost did the TCM film fest this year but couldn't quite swing it... perhaps next.
