Just my opinion but I think script doctors and the writers brought in to rewrite projects are unholy. They are a selected few who get all the credit. It's a numbers game for studios. They have their favorites. They aren't the only writers who can write. But it's ok because other writers like myself will rise up and knock those script doctors and rewriters off their thrones. Then we will be the unholy ones.

Of course they get my respect for being at the top of their games in Hollywood. They just need to know that their days are numbered. But that's nature. The high and mighty rise then fall for the low and looked over to rise up to replace them as the high and mighty. Cycle of Hollywood.

One day... one day...

Hey Scott, do you have any doctoring/rewrite stories/nightmares from Myers & Burg days?
Scott at 2010-04-29 13:33:35:
@Peter Dwight: In both of my writing partnerships, our function was different. We originated stories (pitches, spec scripts), were brought on to revive floundering scripts in development hell, or worked on taking story ideas from concept stage to script. Never did any script doctoring.

@scott
hmmm i've always been interested in the whole reviving scripts in development hell. Because each studio must have thousands upon thousands of scripts that have never made it out of development and they own the rights to.

As if plenty great stories are just sitting right under a studio's nose, but nobody knows, or is looking.
